Yes, I succumbed to the "25 Things About Me" meme on Facebook. Here are mine:
Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you.
1. My favorite foods in the whole wide world are Cicero’s Pizza, Rubio’s or Fins fish tacos, mom’s shepherds pie, Breyer’s ice cream (mint chip specifically), bangers and mash, sweet potato fries and chicken mole enchiladas. I happen to think English food is DELICIOUS.
2. That’s probably because I’m English. I was born in Reading, England and moved to California when I was seven. I lost my accent within a year because the kids at school made fun of me.
3. I’ve always felt in every single situation in my life, like a little bit of an outsider.
4. I always knew that I would never work in an office in a "typical" job. I always knew it would be in the arts. I also always knew that I would one day live in New York City. I can do anything I put my mind to.
5. I moved to NYC with $2000 to my name, 2 suitcases and 8 boxes. I took the train across the country to get there with my best friend, Michele. I started working on a Broadway show four days after arriving in town. Moving to NYC and actually MAKING IT there is the thing I am most proud of in my life.
6. I have since taken the train across the country five times. A couple of times I have sat in a Coach class seat the whole way. It has taken up to five days to get from one coast to another.
7. My favorite place that I have ever lived was on 22nd Street in San Francisco. I LOVED that apartment. Michele lived right below me. We had the BEST Mexican-themed Christmas party ever in those apartments. We also had an AWESOME Thanksgiving feast there.
8. I think the happiest years of my life were the four I spent at UCSD in San Diego.
9. My favorite place that I have ever worked was Shakespeare Santa Cruz. I think one day I will probably end up living in Santa Cruz.
10. I am most happy and fulfilled when I am truly valued at work. The first names who come to mind when I think of people who I have worked with who have made me feel truly valued are: Craig Slaight, Jeremy Cohen, Michael Wilson, Danny Scheie, Paul Whitworth, Ed Lapine, Richard Rauscher, James Latus and Darko Tresjnak. If you can tell, I prefer to work with men. They are much less complicated than women.
11. I sometimes hate working in theater. It is the singular most stressful thing in my life. I also simultaneously love it, and can’t imagine doing anything else.
12. I LOVE photography. I love taking photos. My favorite photographs are candid shots of people. I don’t love posed shots of people. I love catching people in real moments. I take photographs everyday.
13. I HATE flying (see #6). I didn’t set foot on an airplane for five years after 9-11. I finally got back on a plane to go to Michele’s wedding in Montreal. I would rather drive ten hours than get on a plane for an hour. I cannot eat anything the day I fly because I am so nervous. Unfortunately I have to fly quite often because of my work. I also hate rollercoasters.
14. The day my cat Misty died, was one of the saddest days of my life. My cat Tallulah, is my most prized possession and my best friend. I can’t imagine life without her. Even thinking about it makes me cry.
15. I am currently addicted to traveling, which is why I have been on tour for two years. But I miss New York incredibly and can’t wait to go back.
16. I have no idea where I will be in five years. Make that one year.
17. I don’t really go to church, or consider myself a very religious person, but being Catholic is important to me. It is part of what makes me, me. I also feel the same way about being English. I feel a very strong tie to the UK although I haven’t been there in twenty years.
18. I am terrified about reaching age 40. I feel like there are some big decisions to be made by that age about the direction my life is going. I feel the clock ticking every day.
19. I love spending time alone.
20. I have always hated my skin. If I could change anything about my appearance, I would have perfect skin.
22. I am actually very shy. I hate meeting new people. I can never think of anything to say. I don’t like people looking at me, or being put on the spot.
23. I love driving during The Magic Hour – at dusk, as the sun is setting. With the windows down, and music playing.
24. I feel most content when I am in California with my friends from high school – none of whom actually went to my high school, but who I met through my confirmation classes at church my sophomore year. (Ironic since I don’t think any of us go to church on a regular basis now!)
25. The only job I have had other than stage management (since graduating from college), is working at a law firm in NY in the word processing dept. from 6am to 11am every weekday for a year in 2005. For that whole year I never slept more than 4 hours a night during the week, as I was still doing theater at night. Even though I have made my living stage managing for almost thirteen years, I still don’t feel like a success at it – hence #11. I always feel like I am *this close* to being jobless and penniless.
